Marianne Nerland is a PhD candidate at the University of Bergen, Faculty of Law, working on her thesis “Non-Governmental Organisations in Refugee camps: Human Rights Obligations and Issues of Accountability”. In 2016, Nerland did field research in Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya, and was a visitor researcher at the Institute for Peace and Reconciliation at Moi University. Her primary research interests include the power dynamics that take place in refugee camps, especially considering the role of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), NGO accountability, human rights, international refugee law, and socio-legal studies.
