In collaboration with BIFF – the Bergen International Film festival – we invite you to the screening of MER ENN BARE FJELL / FOR OUR RIGHTS (2025), which is a contestant for this year’s Best Short Documentary, and a conversation with the director.
The Norwegian Supreme Court has ruled that a wind farm in a reindeer grazing area violates the rights of the Sámi people. Yet, the wind turbines are still standing. Young Sámi activists are demonstrating to force the authorities to act. Johannes Vang is a Kven-Norwegian director from Nordreisa in Troms. His work explores themes relevant to his own generation in contemporary society, grounded in Kven and Sámi historical perspectives. For Our Rights is his personal contribution to the Fosen protests, offering a subjective perspective as a young Sámi today.
– Rasmus Berg (who was part of the Fosen protests representing Natur og Ungdom)
– Ana Braconnier (currently a guest researcher at UiB, who researches indigenous rigths and protests as part of the CMI-LawTransform PluriLand project)
– Siri Gloppen (Professor at the UiB Department of Government and LawTransform director) will moderate the conversation
The breakfast seminar will take place at the Faculty of Law, UiB, in the auditorium located on the ground floor of the JUS-II building, room no. 145. The address is Jekteviksbakken 29, but the entrance is from Nøstegaten.
The event is sponored by the CMI-LawTransform PluriLand project
