Travel information for Bergen Exchanges 2021

We hope we can welcome many of you to Bergen for this year’s edition of the Bergen Exchanges on Law & Social Transformation (16-20 August). However, as you are all aware, the world is still facing challenging times with much insecurity related to travel, so we are once more adapting most of the Bergen Exchanges’ events as hybrid versions.

Norway is gradually opening for visitors from abroad but there are still limitations and a requirement entry quarantine in most cases. The main exceptions for quarantine are 1. travelers coming from European countries and areas classified as green and 2. persons who are fully vaccinated or have had COVID in the last six months. In this second case, the information must be attested by a Norwegian, Danish, Swedish or EU digital COVID -19 certificate.

For most of the cases (red, orange or purple countries and areas), the quarantine is ten days long and, currently, can be completed at home or another suitable place. Moreover, the quarantine can end on the seventh day after arrival in case of a negative PCR test result. Find more information about quarantine here.

When it comes to visitors from outside of the EEA area or the United Kingdom, at this point, only the ones who are closely related to a resident of Norway and whose country classified as purple (Australia, Israel, Japan, Lebanon, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Serbia, South Korea, Taiwan, the USA and Singapore) are allowed to enter.

Visitors from outside of the EEA area or the United Kingdom whose country is not on the purple list are not allowed to enter as a general rule and, in case of exceptions, must go to a quarantine hotel for at least three days.

Visa

In addition to the corona restrictions, Norway requires visas for visitors from some countries, for example, India and South Africa. People from other countries, such as Brazil and the USA, do not need a visa for visiting up until 90 days. You can easily check if a visitor visa is required for your country using this page (in English): https://www.udi.no/en/want-to-apply/visit-and-holiday/ . Please note that the pandemic might also influence waiting time for visa applications.
