Brazil’s leadership on climate change: COP 30 and Trump 2.0

Brazil will host COP30 in November, the annual climate negotiations aimed at addressing the harmful impacts human activities have on the climate.

This year’s COP30 holds special significance as it will be held in the Amazon, the world’s most biodiverse biome. Despite the challenging geopolitical climate, particularly due to the second presidency of Trump, Brazil is prepared with contingency plans to invigorate the conference.

In light of the criticisms directed at our multilateral global order, Rached will emphasise the importance of strengthening the normative foundations of the global political system as a solution to these challenges.

🔹 Speaker:

Danielle Rached – Institute of International Relations at the University of São Paulo (IRI-USP) and LawTransform Global Fellow. Rached develops research on the following topics: autocratization processes and the climate agenda; global environmental governance and democratic possibilities; Brazilian foreign policy in the environmental area, and the role of social movements in the demand for climate justice.

The event will be moderated by Ianira Vieria – MA student, Politics and Governance of Global Challenges, UiB and research assistant at LawTransform.
