Film & reflection: “The Case Against 8”

Join the Centre on Law and Social Transformation’s screening of the
award-winning documentary ”The Case Against 8” (2014) by Ben Cotner and Ryan White, on November 9th, 18.00-21.00.

The documentary focuses on the historic lawsuit that overturned the ban on same-sex marriage in California, paving the way for the 2015 decision in ”Obergfeller vs Hodges”, which legalized same-sex marriage across the United States. It offers a fascinating behind-the scenes look at how two lawyers of very different political convictions join forces to combat discrimination. “The Case Against 8” also follows the plaintiffs, showing both the repercussions of banning same-sex marriage and of being at the center of attention and controversy in such a polemical case.

The documentary and topic will be introduced by Vegard Vibe, PhD-candidate at the Department of Comparative Politics. Afterwards we will reflect upon and discuss the movie in light of recent developments on LGBT-rights in both the US and elsewhere.
