Gender, Islam and Legal ordering in Post-US Afghanistan

Date: 20 August 2021
The Afghan peace talks suggest a decline of Western influence that might open for greater prominence of conservative and Islamist forces. What could this mean for the rights of Afghan women? This panel presents a new project that will examine the relationship between gender and Islam in Afghanistan as it affects women’s rights and protections at this critical political juncture.
This event presents the RCN funded project Gender, Islam and Legal ordering in Post-US Afghanistan (CMI). Chaired by Torunn Wimpelmann (Research Director CMI), in conversation with Orzala Nemat (Afghan scholar and civil society activist) and Astri Suhrke (Senior Researcher, CMI).
