Time: 8.30-9.30
The Centre on Law and Social Transformation invites you to the launch of our new exciting research project entitled “Women on the Bench”. The research project will examine the role of women in the courts in five fragile and conflict affected states. We ask: How does a history of conflict affect the number and role of female judges and judicial outcomes in cases of gendered violence? Addressing important issues such as gender equality, peace, justice and strong institutions, we focus on how women judges fare in states that in some respects are considered “fragile”, with a history of violent conflict and severe human rights abuses.
The project, funded by the Norwegian Research Council (NORGLOBAL, 2017-20), is a collaboration between the Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI), the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) in London, and the Department of Comparative Politics at the University of Bergen (UoB).
Participants in the discussion are:
- Project leader Elin Skaar, (CMI)
- Pilar Domingo, (ODI), London
- Other Bergen-based members of the research team.
They will have a dialogue with Oda Ringstad, who is a fourth-year law-student at UiB, and an intern at LawTransform, in charge of the “Courts and Judicial Independence” research unit.
Coffee and croissants will be served!
