Presentation
Pieter De Wilde: The essence of democratic backsliding in the European Union: deliberation and rule of law.

Pieter De Wilde is Professor of Political Science at the Department of Sociology and Political Science at NTNU. His research addresses political conflict over European integration and globalization, Euroscepticism as well as public debate in mass media, the internet, and parliamentary settings. Currently, he studies public discourses about democracy in Europe as partner in RECONNECT (Horizon 2020), unelected representatives and their impact on liberal democracy as principal investigator of the UNREP project, and on what social media reveal about our political opinions as coordinator of the project Trondheim Analytica.

The webinar is part of the RDV seminar series – a collaboration between the Research Group Law, Democracy and Welfare at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Center for Research on Discretion and Paternalism (UiB) and the Center on Law and Social Transformation – Lawtransform (UiB/CMI). Seminars consist of guest lectures or presentation of papers from the group members.
