Sylvia Tamale: Re-routing Knowledge Production in Africa
We are pleased to announce that this year’s Annual Lecture on Law & Social Transformation will be given by Sylvia Tamale (Professor of Law, Makerere University). She will speak on “Re-routing Knowledge Production in Africa: In Search of Our Roots”. The lecture will take place on 24 August, 16:00-17:30 in the University Aula, or follow our stream here.
Prof. Sylvia Tamale (Makerere University) is a leading African feminist lawyer, sociologist and human rights activist. She has won prizes and awards for defending human rights of marginalised groups such as women, sex workers, homosexuals and refugees. Her research interests include gender, law & sexuality, feminist jurisprudence and women in politics. In 2004, Prof. Tamale became the first female dean of Makerere University Law School. She has been a visiting professor at the African Gender Institute of the University of Cape Town and a visiting scholar at the University of Wisconsin. Prof. Tamale has served on the boards of the Uganda HIV/AIDS Alliance, the Global Commission on HIV and the Law, and the International Council on Human Rights Policy.
