Panel on shrinking democratic space at MRdagarna
The Swedish Forum for Human Rights (MRdagarna) gathers domestic and international human rights activists in Sweden. Svein-Erik Helle participated in panel on shrinking democratic space in East Africa.
The panel, organized by the Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) in co-operation with Forum Syd and Fojo Media Institute, focused on the possibilities for development in the shrinking democratic space in the region. A particular emphasis was focused on the role of international donors, and how they should relate to domestic actors and their own competing interests. The panel included Svein-Erik Helle from the Breaking BAD team, Anders Sjögren from Uppsala University, Kenyan activist George Gachara, and director of SIDA Carin Jämtin.
