Ariansen is currently a post doctor at the Department of Sociology at the University of Bergen, and works on the relative importance of nature vs. nurture for labor market exclusion in Norway. Other research interests include topics related to global governance. Her Ph.D. thesis on sickness absence among Norwegian women included empirical analyses of survey and registry data, and her knowledge on registry data has been strengthened through her previous position as the general manager of the infrastructure project “Health Registries for Research”, which is funded by The Research Council of Norway.
