Prof. Søvig has extensive experience within the Public Law domain, especially legal issues concerning Health and Social Welfare, and has in addition to his long-term employment at the University of Bergen Law Faculty, held temporary engagements as both District Court Judge and Board Leader at a Norwegian County Social Welfare Board. His research focuses especially on the use of coercion in social welfare law issues, such as drug dependency, psychiatry and child welfare and childrens’ rights, and he has published and lectured extensively on these topics over several decades.
