Cosmopolitan Turn and Democratic Sentiments

Project Team: Gabriel Bădescu, Marit Skivenes, Asgeir Falch-Eriksen

Timeframe: 12/01/2019 - 12/31/2023

The CONSENT-project will study the children’s rights situation in Norway and Romania.

All children possess rights as declared in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The CONSENT research project will empirically examine the extent to which the CRC is considered to be relevant in democratic assemblies and legal regulations, if it corresponds to the nature of trust people have in child protection services, and if it can be identified in professional practices.

The project aims to develop a comprehensive expression and conceptualization of the protection of the child according to the CRC, and will focus on the rights of non-discrimination, the best interests of the child, participation, and family life.

The research project is coordinated by the Babeş-Bolyai University in Romania, with the University of Bergen (UiB) and Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet) as Norwegian partners. Project director is Gabriel Bădescu, with Marit Skivenes as team leader at UiB and Asgeir Falch-Eriksen as team leader at OsloMet.

The project is funded by an EEA Grant for Collaborative Research Projects between Romania and Norway. In competition with several other projects was, CONSENT was the only project within social science and humanities that obtained funding. The total budget is EUR 1.698.338.
