A movie screening & seminar of “I am the river, the river is me”

Join us for a free movie screening and a seminar of “I am the river, the river is me”.

The movie tells the story of the Whanganui River in New Zealand. Besides holding a key role in the history and mythology of the indigenous Māori people, the river holds a unique role in the world of nature protection. In a rather unique case in the world, the Whanganui River has been recognized as a legal person.

There is limited seating, so secure yourself a ticket here.

The screening will be followed up with a Seminar at Bergen Global (Jekteviksbakken, 31), on the topic of legal protection for land and indigenous people. Scholars from across the world will join digitally, as we delve into the topics of the movie and its relation to the LawTransform research project Pluriland – land rights claiming in plural legal regimes.

The seminar is free of charge, and pizza will be served.

Movie screening: 14.45 – 16.15

Seminar at Bergen Global: 16.30 – 17.30

The event is a collaboration with Bergen Film Festival (BIFF). The event is open for everyone.
