We see a growing number of court cases where children challenge the state for not acting responsibly to secure their (and future generations’) rights to a healthy environment. Most of the cases have been lodged before courts in the USA but we also see it in other parts of the world, including Colombia, where a landmark judgement was handed down by the Supreme Court in April 2018. Are children lodging these cases really active participants or mere symbols? And what is the likelihood of winning these cases- and of having real world effects?
